Let Us Vote is a petition drive launched by Nebraska Family Alliance requiring the Lincoln City Council to rescind a gender identity bathroom ordinance or put it on the ballot for a vote of the people.
My cmnt: In October of 2020 we, the good citizens of Lincoln, filed affidavits to recall our Leftist Mayor from Portland, Or. and her four fellow travelers on the city council. We ultimately could not get the required number of signatures. But the Left never learns and never rests. Like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park they keep testing the fence for a weakness and then when they find it they break out and wreak havoc.
Even tho’ the phrase, “no rest for the wicked”, doesn’t appear in the Bible it captures well the meaning of a phrase in Isaiah 57:20-21, which reads:
“But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud. ‘There is no peace,’ says my God, ‘for the wicked.’”
WHO DOES THE CITY ORDINANCE IMPACT?
Parents, children, all businesses open to the public, private schools, youth sports leagues, and even churches.
On February 14th, 2022 the Lincoln City Council adopted an ordinance redefining “sex” to mean “male, female, neither, or both,” including but “not limited to sexual orientation and gender identity” in an entire section of the city’s municipal code.
This ordinance ignores both common sense and the will of the citizens of Lincoln.
Registered voters in Lincoln have until February 28th to sign a petition requiring the city council to rescind the ordinance or put it on the ballot for a vote of the people.
Every person should be treated with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, coercive sexual orientation and gender identity ordinances undermine both fairness and freedom.
These policies are used to:
- Force a destructive gender ideology on society
- Require that men who profess a female identity be permitted to access women’s bathrooms and locker rooms
- Threaten business owners with devastating financial liability
- Empower the government to punish citizens with Biblical beliefs on marriage and human sexuality
The ordinance passed by the city council ignores common sense by giving men who claim to be female unfettered access to intimate places designated for women, including showers, locker rooms, and restrooms at:
- Businesses
- Gyms
- Private schools
- Youth sports leagues
- And even churches
Due to the ordinance’s broad reach and ill-defined, unverifiable definition of “sex,” a business or non-profit could be guilty of violating the law for failing to use someone’s preferred pronouns or for trying to prevent men who self-identify as women from entering women’s bathrooms.
Citizens could be charged with civil penalties and life-ruining fines.
But this ordinance also ignores the will of the people.
In 2012, the Lincoln City Council passed a similar ordinance. A successful referendum petition signed by over 10,000 voters required the city council to rescind the ordinance or put it on the ballot.
The city council never did. The previous ordinance has sat idle and unenforceable, and now, ten years later, they passed an ordinance attempting to do what citizens demanded they be allowed to vote on.
The Lincoln City Council should not be allowed to circumvent the will of the people.
Sign the petition and demand that the people of Lincoln be allowed to vote.
