The Plot Thickens – a book blog that stands for quality stories, old and new

My cmnt: This young woman (her site says that she was 19 yrs old in 2020) is obviously an avid reader and well-versed in what she has read. She certainly provides insight into her way of looking at things. So I purchased her recommended (below) “The Dragon’s Tooth” by N.D. Wilson to see if I would recommend it to my grandchildren. It was a tedious book to get thru and did nothing to bolster her claim that “Wilson is the greatest modern author.” I would not recommend this book to any of my grandchildren nor anyone else. I have read all of the Harry Potter books by Jo Rowling and Wilson’s story telling does not hold a candle to these. I will say that while the HP series is a marvel of inventive story telling, the writing per se is oriented towards Rowling’s target audience of adolescent children and girls in particular. Looking at Kendra’s website in 2024 I don’t see any updates since Aug 2021 so perhaps she has moved on to other interests. I initially thought that this might be a valuable website for reviews and recommendations of books for young people and perhaps it is (I still assume a young reader of fiction has a better handle on what other young readers would like than I do) but while I would highly recommend the Potter series I would not do the same for the Wilson series.
My cmnt: You can read a brief review of John Nolte’s Borrowed Time here and here. This I CAN recommend as a great book for summer reading though it is not for adolescents. I can also recommend the three prequels to the “Left Behind” series (The Rising, The Regime, & The Rapture – by Jerry B. Jenkins) especially if you don’t feel like reading the 12 (or so) books of that series.
