Lincoln Journal Star

My cmnt: When I was in Chicago for SAP classes in the 1990s I went to a small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant near the hotel I was staying and had a legendary and authentic Chicago meat sandwich (pictured above – far right) hot out of a huge witch’s cauldron-looking pot. The guy behind the counter (who sounded like Stallone in Rocky) then added whichever veggies I wanted. Greatest sandwich I ever had. The second greatest sandwich I had the pleasure of consuming was from the Wall Street Deli in Tower City Mall’s food court in downtown Cleveland (also for an SAP class). I was staying in the twin towers next to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so I could walk there. I picked whichever meats I wanted and how much of each (pastrami, corned beef, Capicola, pepperoni, and salami, roast beef), which he freshly sliced, provolone cheese, and veggies with vinegar and oil and seasonings.

In-N-Out

A west-coast burger phenomenon, In-N-Out has gained national attention online for its not-so-secret secret menu and commitment to freshness. Even former California Governor and occasional action-star Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fan.STEPHAN SAVOIA

Giordano’s Pizzeria

While it may be coming to Omaha soon, Journal Star readers repeatedly asked for Giordano’s Chicago-style pizza to be offered in Lincoln as well. AP photo

Shake Shack

Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in Manhattan, the company says. The restaurant serves burgers, chicken, hot dogs, frozen custard, beer, wine and more.Shake Shack Facebook page
