Travis and Jason Kelce released what might be the most anticipated podcast episode in the history of the format on Wednesday, as the brothers hosted Taylor Swift on their show “New Heights” to talk about her coming album “The Life of a Showgirl” for the first time.
More than one million fans watched live in real time. After the star talked about falling in love with both Travis and the sport of football over the course of a sprawling interview that lasted nearly two hours, Swift said that she will release “The Life of a Showgirl” on Oct. 3.
Her goal was to write pop hits with “melodies that were so infectious that you’re almost angry at [them],” she said. Travis called the release “a lot more upbeat” and “a complete 180” relative to Swift’s last album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
“This album is going to make you dance,” he promised.

Swift produced “The Life of a Showgirl” with the Swedish pop savants Max Martin and Shellback, who played a key role in crafting the singer’s previous albums “1989” and “Reputation.”
“The three of us have made some of my favorite songs that I’ve ever done before,” Swift said, pointing to hits like “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “Style.”
Swift worked on “The Life of a Showgirl” between Eras Tour performances in Europe, and it is meant to capture “what was going on behind the scenes” at the time, “which was so exuberant and electric.”
The album’s title track is a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, who opened for Swift on some Eras Tour dates and has her own album coming out Aug. 29.
The “New Heights” episode ranged widely, touching on Swift’s Eras Tour experience, her father’s recent heart surgery, the role that Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid played in connecting the singer with Travis, the similarities between stardom in pop and football and her interest in baking sourdough bread.

Swift is so “deep in a sourdough obsession”—including experimenting with flavors like blueberry lemon and cinnamon swirl—that she even made a series of bread puns based on lyrics to her songs: “It’s a loaf story, baby, just say yeast.”
The singer also discussed the path to finally purchasing her first six albums, an acquisition that she announced in May. She got visibly emotional when she recounted sending her mother and brother as envoys to Shamrock Capital, the company that owned the records, to make a case for letting her buy them back. Swift said she “very dramatically hit the floor” when she found out that the deal went through.
“I started crying, too,” Travis added.
