Vice President Kamala Harris’s track record of gaffes and word salads fell into the spotlight this week after she became the Democrats’ de facto presumptive nominee.
Harris is infamous for spouting odd phrases and explanations for simple ideas. In 2022, for example, she marveled over Venn diagrams. Another time she rambled about the “significance of the passage of time.”
“More alphabet soup from Kamala,” one X user mocked.
The Harris campaign apparently believes its candidate will make more gaffes as the party’s de facto presumptive nominee and hopes its content creation can be “ironic content online that’s signaling earnest support for her candidacy — without turning cringe and ruining it,” West Wing reported this week.
The campaign should use restraint when pushing Harris memes and videos created by her fans, a campaign staffer said, noting it would be good if the campaign doesn’t “lean in too much to the point that it becomes cringey.”
The cringeworthy material floating around on social media, however, might impress young voters, staffers told West Wing. “The idea is to wink and nod at the memes so that online supporters feel seen rather than to co-opt the memes themselves,” the outlet reported.
Harris holds a 55-percent unfavorable rating among ages 18-34, a Monday Quinnipiac poll found. Overall, Harris’s approval rating is low at 37 percent, while 51 percent disapprove, according to FiveThirtyEight. Her approval rating is below the 50 percent threshold that incumbents historically need to win reelection.Below are Harris’s top five word salads:
ONE
Speaking about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Harris said the “great aspiration of our nation has been to expand freedom. … But the expansion of freedom clearly is not inevitable, and it certainly is not something that just happens.”
Harris, continuing to speak about overcoming political opposition, which she dubbed “odds and the obstacles,” tried to deliver an inspirational line to the audience about overcoming the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“We push to move forward; that we are guided by what we see that can be, unburdened by what has been,” she stated, with no applause forthcoming. “And I know everyone in this room understands this,” she claimed.
TWO
Speaking alongside Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness in March 2022, Harris struggled to convey that the United States would be providing economic assistance to the island nation. “We also recognize — just as it has been in the United States — for Jamaica one of the issues that has been presented as an issue that is economic in the way of its impact has been the pandemic,” she said.
“So to that end,” Harris continued, “we will assist Jamaica in COVID recovery by assisting in terms of the recovery efforts in Jamaica that have been essential to, I believe, what is necessary to strengthen not only, uhhh, the issue of public health, but also the economy.”
THREE
The vice president rambled about the “significance of the passage of time” during a speech in Sunset, Louisiana. Harris noted the “significance of the passage of time” four times within 32 seconds.
FOUR
During her trip to Poland in the spring, she seemed to read her notes with difficulty while expressing exactly where she was as she spoke.
“I am here, standing here on the northern flank, on the eastern flank, talking about what we have in terms of the eastern flank and our NATO allies, and what is at stake at this very moment. What is at stake this very moment are some of the guiding principles,” she said.
FIVE
Harris delivered another word salad as she painstakingly explained where “community banks” are located.
“We invested an additional $12 billion into community banks because we know community banks are in the community, and understand the needs and desires of that community as well as the talent and capacity of community,” Harris said.

Harris Campaign Looks to Make Word Salads Go Viral ‘Without Turning Cringe’

By Wendell Husebø 24 Jul 2024 Breitbart
The Harris campaign appears self-conscious about its gaffe-prone candidate, so it’s trying to embrace the gibberish in its content creation “without turning cringe,” Politico West Wing reported Tuesday.
Harris is infamous for spouting odd phrases and explanations for simple ideas. In 2022, for example, she marveled over venn diagrams. Another time she rambled about the “significance of the passage” of time. “More alphabet soup from Kamala,” one X user mocked.

Harris holds a 55 percent unfavorably among ages 18-34, a Monday Quinnipiac poll found.
Harris has delivered many gaffes during her tenure as vice president. When asked in 2021 by NBC News’s Lester Holt if she traveled to the border to inspect President Biden’s southern invasion, she replied that she had not been to Europe yet.
“I haven’t been to Europe,” Harris said laughing. “And I mean, I don’t understand the point that you’re making. I’m not discounting the importance of the border.”
During her trip to Poland during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Harris seemed to find it difficult to read her notes while expressing exactly where she spoke.
“I am here, standing here on the northern flank, on the eastern flank, talking about what we have in terms of the eastern flank and our NATO allies, and what is at stake at this very moment, what is at stake this very moment are some of the guiding principles,” she said.
Ukraine is a member of NATO, Harris suggested in 2022. “The United States stands firmly with the Ukrainian people in defense of the NATO alliance,” Harris declared in what appears to be a now-deleted tweet.

Kamala Harris Delivers Word Salad, Again: ‘Community Banks Are In the Community’
By Ethan Letkeman – 21 Sep 2022 – Breitbart
Vice President Kamala Harris delivered another word salad on Tuesday as she incoherently explained where “community banks” are located.
“We invested an additional $12 billion into community banks because we know community banks are in the community, and understand the needs and desires of that community as well as the talent and capacity of community,” Harris said.
The vice president’s nonsensical remarks were made at Claflin University in South Carolina at an event with Education Secretary Miguel Cardona during a roundtable discussion with student leaders.
Harris was then mocked on social media as footage of her gaffe went viral.
“Kamala Harris, the greatest orator since Winston Churchill, on community banks,” said Clay Travis, founder of OutKick
“Kamala had to give another book report on a book she didn’t read today… this time the title was, “Community Banks,”” wrote comedian Tim Young.
“Thanks to @vp Kamala Harris for making it clear that: ‘Community banks are in the community,’” tweeted former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
This was not the first time the vice president has struggled with her words this year, as Breitbart News has documented.
While speaking at the workforce summit for the American Rescue Plan regarding transportation in July, Harris rambled on the importance of getting home.
“Together, we are expanding access to transportation. It seems like maybe it’s a small issue; it’s a big issue,” the vice president said before incoherently explaining: “You need to get to go and need to be able to get where you need to go to do the work and get home.”
In June, Harris struggled to speak coherently while addressing the future of abortion following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“The strength of our nation has always been that despite the odds and the obstacles, we push to move forward. That we are guided by what we see that can be unburdened by what has been,” she said.
In March, Harris repeated the phrase “the passage of time” four times within 30 seconds while delivering remarks on accessible high-speed internet.
Harris’s “community banks” remark is also not the first time a Democrat from California stated something that would seem obvious by its phrasing.
In June 2020, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was asked a question in the wake of the Black Lives Matter Protests to define “systemic racism,” to which he replied: “Systemic racism is racism that’s built into systems.”

‘The Daily Show’ Mocks Kamala Harris’ Word Salad Speeches with Julia Louis-Dreyfus ‘Veep’ Montage

Alana Mastrangelo – 5 Oct 2022 – Breitbart
The Daily Show mocked Vice President Kamala Harris with a video comparing her to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s character, hilariously incompetent fictional female vice president, in HBO’s Veep.
The video features a montage of clips in which Harris is seen and heard issuing her infamous word salads, with every other scene showcasing a fictional vice president making similar statements.
“When we talk about the children of the community, they are the children of the community,” Harris is heard saying in one clip, followed by a clip of Dreyfus’s character, Selina Meyer, saying, “Well, we are the United States of America because we are united, and we are states.”
Watch Below:
“Talking about the significance of the passage of time, right? The significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time,” Harris says in another clip.
The next clip shows the fictional vice president character uttering a similar statement: “Whatever we have in store cannot be known. The past was once the future. The future is, I should say, unknown.”
“We got to talk this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are, because you have been forced to have to take it seriously,” Harris says in the next clip, followed by Dreyfus’s Veep character saying, “Obesity is a serious disease, and it needs to be taken seriously.”
“You need to get to go, and need to be able to get where you need to go to do the work, and get home,” Harris says in the next clip.
Amusingly, the fictional vice president then states, “I hope that clarifies the issue, and this can be the last word on those words,” followed by a clip of Harris saying, “Certain issues are just settled — I do believe that we are living, sadly, in real unsettled times.”
Many on social media reacted by sharing their surprise over seeing a show affiliated with Comedy Central — a network known for being liberal — poking fun of a Democrat politician.
