My cmnt: I’ve been logging just some of the incidents of gun violence in major democrat-controlled cities for years now. When will it stop? Never. The Leftist-democrat media complex (i.e., universities, colleges, the DNC, the legacy media, public schools, the welfare state, the deep state, etc.) thrive on chaos, violence, riots, hatred, dissension, mass protests, generational ignorance, poverty and murder. Until the Judeo-Christian ethic is overthrown and eliminated the democrats will keep allowing this to happen.

The Chicago Sun-Times indicates 100 people were shot in gun-controlled Chicago over the July 4th weekend and 14 of the victims died from their wounds.

That means 86 were shot and wounded and 14 were killed over one holiday weekend in Chicago. Yet Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) supports even more gun control on the good guys–federally licensed firearms dealers–and opposes concealed carry reciprocity for law-abiding citizens.

According to the Sun-Times, “36 people [were] shot across the city in an 8-hour span of violence between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday” alone. During that 8-hour span, six people lost their lives.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting occurred just before 9:00 p.m. on Friday “in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.” The victim–52-year-old John Hunter–was shot and “pronounced dead at his apartment.” He was one of three individuals shot in that one incident. The other two victims–30-year-old Javon Jackson and 50-year-old Sedrick Ringer–were shot and fatally wounded as well. Ringer was pronounced dead at the scene and Jackson died at the hospital.

On June 30–the first day of the July 4th weekend–Breitbart News reported that President Trump had seen enough. He tweeted that he was sending “federal help” to gun-controlled Chicago to try to get the violence under control. He wrote:

He originally put Chicago city leaders on notice on January 24, when he tweeted about the “carnage” in Chicago and pledged to “send in the feds” if the tide of violence was not stemmed.

There were nearly 4,400 shooting victims in gun-controlled Chicago in 2016 and almost 800 homicides. At some point city officials have to realize that the gun control-first approach is inhumane. Human beings are being preyed upon by armed street criminals and gang members who are not concerned with laws prohibiting the possession of guns or laws prohibiting murder. Gun control does not stop them. Rather, it empowers them.

Nearly 100 Shot Friday Night Through Monday Night in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago

Nearly 100 people were shot, 17 fatally, Friday night through Monday night in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.

ABC 7 reported 98 people were shot in the time-frame of “Friday at 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Monday,” and 17 of those shooting victims succumbed to their wounds.

The Chicago Sun-Times listed the number of fatalities at 19.

ABC 7 pointed out that 87 people were shot during that same period over the Independence holiday in 2020.

The violence over the long weekend follows a Thursday on which 32 people were shot. Thursday’s wounded included a one-month-old girl who was shot in the head.

The violence and death has surged to such levels that Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown plans to speak at a press conference and take questions Tuesday afternoon.

On July 5, 2021, Brown tweeted: “Our officers continue to work tirelessly to keep our city safe. As of today, Chicago Police Department has recovered over 6,100 guns: a 26% increase from the same period last year. I commend our officers for their continued hard work during these challenging times for law enforcement.”

The Sun-Times observed there were over 1,892 shootings in Chicago January 1, 2021, through June 28, 2021, a 12 percent increase over the same time frame last year.

Over 330 people were killed in Chicago during the first six months of 2021.

At Least 100 People Shot During July 4th Weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago

At least 100 people were shot, 17 of them fatally, during the July 4th weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) Chicago.

Earlier in the weekend, Breitbart News reported at least 58 people were shot in the city Wednesday night to Friday night alone. Eleven of the 58 gunshot victims succumbed to their wounds.

By Sunday morning, the tally of gunshot victims had risen to at least 87 people, 16 of whom died.

The violence was so great that ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times pointed out one Chicago resident referred to July 4th as “assassination day.”

On Monday morning, CNN reported the number of gunshot victims was at least 100 people, 17 of whom died from their injuries. Moreover, CNN noted the July 4th “weekend gun violence in Chicago this year marks around a 27% increase in shootings over last year.”

The Chicago Sun-Times observed the number of people shot during the 2023 July 4th weekend was 73, with 11 fatalities.

The July 4th weekend lasted four days in 2024 and four days in 2023. It also lasted four days in 2019, when the total number of people shot was 68, five of which were shot fatally.

Chicago, like all of Illinois, has a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases, a red flag law, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, and a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card requirement. The process of acquiring a FOID card involves a thorough background check by the Illinois State Police.

Additionally, Cook County, where Chicago is seated, has its own “assault weapons” ban and ban on “high capacity” magazines. Yet at least 100 people were shot in the Windy City during the July 4th weekend.

At Least 100 Shot over Father’s Day Weekend in Mayor Lightfoot’s Chicago

At least 100 people were shot, 14 fatally, in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago over Father’s Day Weekend 2020.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the first non-fatal shooting of the weekend occurred around 6:30 p.m. Friday, when a vehicle pulled up near a 35-year-old woman and the occupants opened fire. The woman was transported to hospital with gunshot wounds to her arm.

NBC Chicago reports the last non-fatal shooting of the weekend took place around 12:30 a.m. Monday, when an 18-year-old woman was shot while “driving in the 5100 block of South Calumet.”

The first fatal shooting of the weekend occurred at 9:52 p.m. Friday, when a car pulled up on three men and the occupants opened fire. Two 34-year-old men and a 43-year-old man were shot, and the wounds of one of the 34-year-old men proved fatal.

The last fatal shooting of the weekend occurred just after midnight Monday morning, when occupants of a car opened fire on a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old as they walked “in an alley in the 4700 block of West Superior.”

On June 21, 2020, Breitbart News reported at least 56 people had been shot in Chicago by Sunday morning of Father’s Day Weekend alone. Nine of those shooting victims died.

More than 30 were shot, two fatally, in Chicago last weekend and 35 were shot, five fatally, the weekend prior.

The Sun-Times reported 85 shot, 24 fatally, in Chicago during the last weekend of May 2020.
