Three teenagers have been arrested for beating an Ohio father of three to death. 

Columbus police say the incident happened at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6.

The three young men allegedly engaged the victim, 53-year-old Donnie Smith, inside a Kroger grocery store, WSXY-TV reported.

The suspects were asked to leave by security after getting into an altercation with patrons inside the store, and then the fight continued outside, police said.

Smith was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died. 

One of the friends who was with Smith at the time told WSXY the group was “trying to pick on whoever they could.”

Charging documents obtained by the local ABC station say Smith was “unconscious and bleeding from the head due to the beating” and that the group was “laughing and enjoying themselves” while assaulting him. 

Smith died two weeks after the assault, the media outlet reported.

The suspects left the scene in a red vehicle, cops said. 

Police did not say how homicide detectives got on their trail, but they did say they arrested 18-year-old Dionta Hughes, 19-year-old Jamarion Evans-Bennett and 17-year-old Jayden Agee on murder charges.

Photos of Hughes and Evans-Bennett were released, but not Agee since he is a minor. 

The investigation is ongoing.

A group of teenagers have been charged with murder after a father-of-three was viciously beaten to death outside an Ohio supermarket. 

Donnie Smith, 53, died following the attack on December 6 outside a Kroger Supermarket in Columbus. 

Police believe Smith was involved in some sort of exchange with a group of people while inside the store prior to the deadly beating.

It is alleged the same group lay in wait for him to come out of the supermarket and launched an attack. 

Jamarion Fredrae Evans-Bennett, 19, Dionta Davon Hughes, 18, and Jayden Agee, 17, have been charged with murder over Smith’s death.

Smith had been shopping inside a Kroger store in Columbus when he was involved in an incident, police say. Detectives believe a group of teens waited for him to walk out when he was attacked, beaten and left unconscious and bleeding out.

An affidavit seen by the Columbus Dispatch details how officers reviewed security footage from the assault which saw the trio follow Smith as he left Kroger. 

‘Three men engaged in an altercation with patrons inside the location. As a result, the suspects were asked to leave by security,’ police said in their report.

‘Once outside, a physical altercation ensued between three males and the victim.’

Police allege the group stomped, kicked, and punched him until he was unconscious and left bleeding from the head. 

A witness told police how the group was seen ‘laughing and enjoying themselves’ while carrying out the vicious assault.

The attack only came to an end when a witness with a firearm intervened and told the three to stop.

The dad is being remembered as an ‘amazing’ man who loved his kids, according to Nicole Evans, his partner of 20 years 

Evans and Smith share a 15-year-old son and six-year-old daughter

Smith was found a short time later by the pharmacy drive-thru by a worker from the store.

Hughes and Evans-Bennett are locked up in the Franklin County jail on $1 million bond. The juvenile is in the county detention center while a decision is made over whether to charge him as an adult.

Speaking about Smith, Nicole Evans described her partner of 20 years as ‘an amazing person’.

The couple shared a 15-year-old son and six-year-old daughter. 

‘He was a great father. He loved his kids. They were his world,’ she said. 

Evans said Smith’s killing was a ‘random act of violence.’ 

‘They just grabbed him and beat him to death,’ she said to ABC 6. ‘It’s sickening. I don’t know how anyone could do that to a human being.’

Family and friends have created a GoFundMe to help the children going forward.
